Born in Lisbon, Portugal, Mr. Bernardo holds a Masters Degree in Music Performance from the University of Michigan where he studied with noted saxophonist Donald Sinta.
Mr. Bernardo is the Instructor of Saxophone and Music Technology at the Bower School of Music of Florida Gulf Coast University.
His teaching credits include being a recipient of a Fulbright Scholar for Study Abroad grant, and over 40 years of saxophone instruction throughout the Florida and the New England area, including former teaching positions at Keene State College of the University of New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce College and the Brattleboro, Vermont Music Center.
Mr. Bernardo was recently featured as soloist on the FGCU Wind Orchestra's first CD titled “Introductions”
He has commissioned and premiered compositions for saxophone including Rhapsody for Saxophone and Orchestra by Vaclav Nelhybel, Sonata for Saxophone and Piano by Hubert Bird, and has performed as a soloist with orchestras and in recital appearances throughout the United States and Portugal.
